How Grade Calculation Works
RGUKT uses an absolute grading system for both PUC and B.Tech streams (for students admitted 2016-17 onwards): your total marks out of 100 (Continuous Internal Evaluation plus End Semester Examination) are matched against fixed marks ranges, each of which maps to a specific letter grade and grade point. There's no curve or class ranking involved in the absolute system — your grade depends only on your own marks.

Note: For theory subjects the minimum pass requirement is 40% overall (P grade). For laboratory, project, internship, comprehensive viva and seminar courses, the minimum pass requirement is 50% overall (D grade) — this calculator applies the theory (40%) threshold by default since it's the most common case; check your specific course type against your official regulations.
Worked Example
A student scores 74 marks out of 100 in Engineering Mechanics. 74 falls in the 70-79 range, which corresponds to grade B with a grade point of 8. Since 74% is above the 40% pass threshold, the subject is a clear pass with no remedial required.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Entering a percentage that's already been rounded, which can push a borderline score into the wrong grade band — use your exact marks where possible.
- Forgetting that laboratory, project and viva courses have a 50% pass threshold (D grade), not 40% like theory subjects.
- Assuming a Remedial grade is permanent — it can be cleared through a remedial examination in the failed subject only.
Frequently Asked Questions
You'll need to appear for a remedial examination in that subject only. If you pass, the grade point used for your SGPA/CGPA is capped one grade lower than what you actually scored in the remedial exam, except at the lowest pass grade, which isn't lowered further.
