RGUKT CGPA Goal Planner
Find out exactly what average SGPA you need in your remaining semesters to reach your target CGPA.
Your Goal
Required Average SGPA
Quick Summary
This planner works backward from your target CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula RGUKT uses to compute CGPA — showing exactly what SGPA average you need going forward.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your current CGPA and the total credits you've completed so far.
- Enter your target CGPA and the credits remaining in your program.
- Click Calculate Required SGPA to see the average SGPA you need in every remaining semester to hit that target.
How This Planner Works
Your final CGPA is a credit-weighted average across ALL credits in your program — the ones you've already completed and the ones still ahead. This planner rearranges the CGPA formula to solve for the one unknown: the average SGPA you need across your remaining credits to land on your target CGPA overall.
Formula
Required SGPA = [(Target CGPA × Total Credits) − (Current CGPA × Completed Credits)] ÷ Remaining Credits
Where Total Credits = Completed Credits + Remaining Credits. Since the highest possible grade point is 10 (Ex grade), the highest possible SGPA is also 10.00 — if the required SGPA works out above 10, the target CGPA is not mathematically achievable with the credits remaining.
Worked Example
A student has a current CGPA of 7.20 after completing 100 credits, and wants to reach a CGPA of 8.00 by the time they finish their remaining 60 credits.
Total credits = 100 + 60 = 160. Target credit points needed = 8.00 × 160 = 1280. Credit points already earned = 7.20 × 100 = 720. Credit points still needed = 1280 − 720 = 560. Required SGPA = 560 ÷ 60 = 9.33.
This student would need an average SGPA of 9.33 across their remaining semesters — a demanding but not impossible target, since the maximum possible SGPA is 10.00.
Practical Use Cases
- Setting a realistic CGPA goal at the start of a semester based on what's mathematically possible.
- Checking whether a Distinction (CGPA ≥ 8.00) or First Class (CGPA ≥ 7.00) is still within reach.
- Deciding how much extra effort a particularly tough semester is really worth toward your final CGPA.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting that the maximum possible SGPA is 10.00 — a required SGPA above that means the target isn't achievable with the credits remaining, not that you've made an error.
- Entering total program credits instead of just the remaining (uncompleted) credits.
- Setting an unrealistically high target without accounting for the difficulty of your remaining core subjects.
Frequently Asked Questions
Since the highest possible grade point (Ex) is 10, the highest possible SGPA is also 10.00. If this planner shows a required SGPA above 10, your target CGPA cannot be reached with the credits you have remaining — you'd need a more modest target or, ideally, more remaining credits (extra semesters) to average toward it.
No, this planner assumes your completed CGPA and credits are fixed and calculates what's needed going forward. RGUKT does allow limited grade-improvement or CGPA-improvement attempts under specific rules — check your official regulations for those separately.
It depends entirely on how many credits remain relative to how many you've completed. Early in your program, a modest SGPA improvement over many remaining credits can shift your CGPA significantly. Late in your program, with few credits left, the same improvement has much less room to work with — this planner shows you exactly where you stand.
